Through a series of photographs, accompanied by a text in the artist's own words, Jungle Mahal looks at the layered histories and landscapes the hilly forests of West Bengal, where one of modern India’s earliest resistances to colonial rule began. At the heart of this body of work is Chhau, a traditional dance form rooted in martial arts that was historically practiced by local militia groups.
